Ring Laser Group gets NZ$750000 over three years from the Marsden Fund |

The ring laser group has been awarded NZ$750K over three years to fund the development of solid state ring laser gyroscopes.
The work is to be performed in collaboration with Prof Ulli Schreiber from Germany and Clive Rowe (a former ring laser group member). This new initiative will be housed in a purpose built laboratory in the Ernest Rutherford building on the main campus. The funding includes monies for both the appointment of a new post-doctoral researcher and a PhD student. |

Prof Francis Everitt of Stanford University, the principle investigator for the Gravity Probe B mission has visited us. He enjoyed tour of the cave and presented a talk as part of the science prestige lecture series.

Following a gas change, operation has been restored on the UG-2 laser. |

Initial realignment of G-0 has been been successful and G-0 is now lasing with the new 16 m radius of curvature mirrors. |
